Barry Lopez's and Farley Mowat's stories though different in style both show their love for wolves and their want to educate the reader about them. Both stories talk of wolves in their natural environment. In Mowat's story the wolves have human interaction while in Lopez's there is none. Mowat's Observing Wolves is based on his observation of a wolf den are the events are true and written is first person. While Lopez's Wolf Notes is a fictional piece derived from personal observations of wolves in the wild and is written in third person.
             Mowat had so much love and respect for the wolves that it blatantly showed through in his writing. He says:
             I took no weapons of any kind... for the most bloodthirsty beasts in the Artic are not wolves, not the insatiable mosquitoes.
             Lopez describes the wolf in his story with such detail and eloquence that it paints the perfect picture in your mind of a beautiful wild animal and not a snarling beast. He also gives the reader a wolf perspective by describing what he sees, smells, hears, and suggests feelings.
             Lopez educates the reader throughout the piece by working into the story facts about wolves such as; telling what they eat, their different was the travel during different times of the year, and how they act to communicate. Mowat's whole story is written to educate the reader, but also tries to drop the reader's prejudice that wolves are evil.
             In showing their love and writing true facts about wolves, the two authors educate and change the way some readers perceive wolves.
