Our founding fathers realized that the future would bring new and advanced technologies. Therefore, when they created the United States Constitution they made sure it was a "living document." A "living document" can be changed and adapted to fit new eras and solve new problems. Writers were able to premeditate future complications when the original constitution was written. Since then the document has been changed fairly, and with the best judgment, many times. Promises, in a way, are much like a "living document," they need to be changed and adapted every once in a while but always abided by. The only reason a promise should ever be broken is if an unaware individual is going to be harmed if they don't know.
             Lots of things change, over time some more drastically than others, but eventually all things change. In the 1700's no one knew that someday there would the Internet. If no one knew that someday "hackers" would be a threat, how could anyone write a law to protect online users hundreds of years in the future? That's just it. They didn't. They left room for adaptation, which allowed future generations to take care of the problem.
             Sometimes promises are made spontaneously or when people aren't considering, or aware of the future. When two people get married they promise to love, honor, and cherish each other until death parts them. Everybody knows that that doesn't always happen. Over time people begin to fight and they face a difficult question. They can either choose to live in an unhealthy relationship, or break the promise they made and get a divorce. Divorce exists only because people break promises'. Everyone has the right to pursue happiness. If someone is unhappy they should be able to do anything possible to make them comfortable.
