             The historical oppression of Native Americans in the United States is very often told to Americans from an ethnocentric view point. It can be said (perhaps arguably) that since the Native Americans had first contact with explorers in the fifteenth century, their culture has never been the same, nor have they as a people had the same freedom they once did. Initial contact with the European foreigners brought many diseases that wiped out millions of the Native American population.
