Sylvia Plath had some interesting judgments throughout her journal entries. One with which I agree is her perception of the world. She believes as time goes on, people's lives seem to become a broken fairy tale, with which I agree.
In younger years of life you have more time on your hands than you know with which to do. Responsibilities are absent and life is very easy. Not having to worry about paying car loans every month or taking out the trash is a plus. Also, a young person can sometime pretend to have homework to act cooler in front of their friends. Your life consists more of playing war and kick the can on summer evenings with your friends than anything else. Also, watching endless hours of cartoons while your mom is yelling at you about how your room is a mess is one of your biggest problems. Having water balloon fights and playing in the mud was never an issue because you didn't have to worry about washing your own clothes or having enough money for laundry detergent. Life was just great until you reached young adulthood. Finding transportation to get to school every day becomes stressful. Also, eating food that is healthy for you on the right time schedule is a must. More responsibilities enter your life as to getting a job so that you have money to pay for gas.
All these things would never happen in a fairy tale. You would never have to worry about a flat tire, money, or shelter in a fairy tale. It's all made up with magic mushrooms and a couple that magically falls in love as the clock strikes midnight. Yet, as people become older they have even more responsibilities. For example buying a house, earning a living, supporting your kids are all responsibilities. Getting a baby sitter while you and your wife go out for dinner is one type of duty. Your life depends primarily on money and the fairy tales are replaced by reality.
