The first conflict in the novel was George and Lennie's dream of owning a farm. After George kills Lennie, he says that it was just a stupid dream and that he knew deep down inside that it would never come true. He said that he repeated the dream so many times to Lennie that for a while he thought that he was really going to own a farm with him. I feel that with the loss of Lennie, George is going to completely give up on his dream. He will move to another farm and keep on working hard every day to make little money. At the end of each week George will take his money to town and spend it on getting drunk and getting prostitutes. He will never end up saving his money. George will continue to move from town to town working on farms until he is too old to be hired. He will than die soon after, because he never saved his money for his house or retirement.
The second conflict in the book is between Curley and his wife. When Lennie murdered Curley's wife, one could easily see that he was not phased by her death in the least. The only thing that he cared about was revenge. He didn't want revenge because his wife was murdered, but because his pride was hurt when Lennie crushed his hand. I feel that because Curley never had the opportunity to take revenge on Lennie for breaking his hand, he will lose a large amount of dignity for the rest of his life. It will always be a chip on his shoulder, because he was embarrassed in front of the whole farm and never had the chance to gain back their respect. I feel that soon after Curley's wife's death, Curley will remarry in great haste, and once again it will be to a person that he will mistreat and not love.
