Britain into a thriving nation. World trade and Europe's control over the global economy allowed the British to progress faster than any other nation and revolutionize economic organization and the people fixed within the system. Historians King and Timmins suggest that "the key feature of the post-1750 period was the emergence of 'distinct and internally integrated regions' which drove the industrialization process forward and had far-reaching effects on work patterns, household economies and the nature of everyday life." . Smaller local scale production became an integrated part of the economy as a whole.
             Another factor that influenced economic change was population. Between 1550 and 1750, England was sparsely populated and consisted primarily of farms and agricultural land. The progression of England's economic growth was directly a result of the change in occupations held by workers. From the 1500's to the 1800's most British made their living off the land. In 1668 the European economy was based significantly on agriculture and land was owned by the wealthy aristocrats and leased to tenants who lived a subsistent lifestyle on the land. Approximately "68 per cent of families were engaged primarily in agriculture." The transformation from agriculture to manufacturing became evident beginning of the eighteenth century when "only about 40 per cent of the adult male labour force worked in agriculture, the lowest percentage of any European country." The urban population continued to grow rapidly, and England alone saw much of the increase. London, by the end of the seventeenth century was the largest city in Europe . It is debated by several historians however, weather population growth started the industrial revolution, or if the industrial revolution started population growth.
