In the first sentence of his quote he is stating that the American Dream has always depended on the conversation between the present and the past. There will always be a conversation if we are living up to our expectation of our American Dream in this generation. Everybody has morals and rules that they follow every single day. He is also talking about that our political life and cultural life is apart of the American Dream.
