This story is written by Edgar Allen Poe and is written in first person. I believe that Poe wrote this story in first person. I believe that Poe wrote this story in first person, as he writes all his older stories to give an element of presents. "I took from pay waistcoat pocket a pen, knife, opened it, grasped the poor beast by the throat, and deliberately cut out one of his eyes". By saying that he, himself, does something as it is shown throughout the book, the use of he achieves a certain way of making the book more active.
             I also believe that the story is totally ironic. In one part he has a black cat it dies and he gets another cat, which is black. Secondly in killing the first cat he closes his because he starts to think more about killing and ends up putting an axe through his wife brain. Thirdly because second cat throws that he is a killer he bids in the walk ultimately getting called up in it with dead body of the mans wife. When the police come they hear the screams of the cat in the wall and get the killer so in a way it is ironic that the very life that he tries to take, that being the cats, is the very same life that ends his, by sending him to prison.
             The author uses medium size sentences with big connotation to cross his point to his readers. I have found that Poe does this in all his stories.
