1928-This was one of the most important years of the 1920s. During this year inventions and new technologies led the way to a new society. In 1928 the first commercial televisions were being produced. Blacks and women were beginning to play an important role in American culture. Amelia Earhart became the first women to fly across the world. Louis Armstrong recorded "West End Blues." Warner Brothers became the first company to release a full talking movie. American culture shifted full force into an entertainment focus society. During 1928 industrial aspects of world culture were very strong and growing. Stalin, who saw the Soviets weak industry in comparison with the rest of the world called for his 5-year plan to take effect and be implemented. The 1920s culture was fixated on constant devolvement and beauty. In 1928 Chrysler corporation unveiled its plans for the now famous Chrysler Building in New York. Another part of entertainment that drew in the crowds was sports. In 1928 the Red Sox and the New York Yankees, for Babe Ruth for $100,000, made the most expensive trade ever of a baseball player.
2) Music. The 1920's were one of the most revolutionary times for music, especially jazz. Jazz was slowly being devolved since the early 1900, but the 1920's were where jazz really was allowed to sprout. The ragtime feel from the south eventually moved north and the old Dixieland feel changed into a swing. Louis Armstrong was one of the strongest forces behind this massive transformation in music. He changed the way jazz was played and the way jazz was listened to. In the 1920s jazz made up over 78% of most popular music in the US. Today jazz makes up less the 7%.
