g Eleanor and her new baby brother with her. Eleanor and her father continued to keep in touch but they were seldom allowed to see each other. Her mother did the best she could to raise Eleanor but after and illness Anna died and Eleanor was sent to live with her grandmother Hall. Eleanor only saw her father a couple times a year but he showered her with affection through is letters. She admired him greatly and was hurt that she could not see him. Elliot in the meantime began drinking heavily after Anna's death. He was so hurt by her death and the death of his son Elliot that he drank himself into a coma in August 1894 and died. Eleanor once more had to adjust to another tragedy. Her life had already consisted of many tragedies and changes. Now, she faced growing up without her parents and living in a home with relatives where she sometimes felt she did not belong.
             The leader of this household was grandmother Hall who did not let Eleanor do many things children did. Also, two aunts Pussie and Maude lived there and two uncles, Vallie and Eddie. Then, there were servants, a housemaid, a butler and a cook. Not only did Eleanor feel she didn't belong there, she was also not accepted by many children her age and did not have the pleasant appearance her mother and grandmother did. She attended school with half a dozen girls at a nearby school but when she was older in 1889, she was sent to Allenswood, a school in England. She would have to adjust to another change.
             Allenswood soon became a major part of her life. She found that it suited her better than any home she had known since early childhood. She enjoyed her new friends and her studies there. At Allenswood, Eleanor became very close friends with her teacher Mary Souvestre. Eleanor began spending much time with Mlle. Souvestre and felt closer to her than to anyone since her father died. She started to become more aware of the world and forgot about the wealthy world...
