Lift the dipstick so it is completely exposed, wipe the dipstick clean with a rag and place the dipstick back. Pull up the dipstick once more and this will give you a proper measurement of how much oil is in the engine. If oil appears above the indicated line on the dipstick the oil does not need to be changed. If the oil is below the line an oil change is necessary.
