It all started in 1937, when Congress passed the Marijuana Tax Act. Ever since that cold day in December things have gone downhill for anything associated the miracle drug known as Marijuana. Ever since then, the media has downplayed marijuana and the effects it has on Americans today. Over the years, the media has taken false information and published articles describing the negative side of the drug, occasionally writing for the positive use of marijuana.
             Growing up in public schools, and being involved with such misleading programs like D.A.R.E, I learned that all drug use was bad. If anyone smoked marijuana, they were bad. I was told that anyone who used drugs would not go anywhere in life. I was brainwashed to the point of ,at the time, hating my mother. When I found out that she smoked, I developed a negative opinion of the most influential person in my life. I sometimes told her that "I hated her," and that she was a horrible person. That is what my teachers told me in school. "They must be right," I told myself. When I was 16 years old my mom sat me down and had a little talk about drugs. The conversation started with a little spark from a Bic lighter to a marijuana cigarette. So here I am, at the age of 16, tokin up with mom. From that day forward my thoughts were all positive about the use of marijuana.
             Why would the American government use media to put negative thoughts about marijuana in our heads? Simple. They don't want us to make money off the number one cash crop if they can't. They don't want us to develop a thought process to think for ourselves, and be independent. They want to make the decisions on what is good and what isn't.
