Stoicism is a very intriguing philosophy. The Stoic view shares many interesting ideas and through Stoic eyes, the world is believed to be pre-determined by the organization of the cosmos. It is for this reason that Stoic's believe we, as humans, have no control over situations and therefore should make the most out of what life hands to us. They believe that even though our life is determined by another force, we should not give up all "normal human efforts".
             In The Encheiridion, the passages offer examples and advice on how to handle situations in a Stoic manner. One of the many important Stoic beliefs is that we should not be carried away by appearances and external emotions. These emotions are said to be merely our own judgments about what has happened. If someone else is "weeping in grief at the departure of his child or the loss of his property, take care not to be carried away by the externals"... "What weighs down on this man is not what has happened (since it does not weigh down on someone else), but his judgment about it". This idea illustrates that it is acceptable to sympathize with someone who is grieving over a loss, but in reality, it is only affecting this person because of the way he interprets his feelings about what he has lost. Also, a Stoic attitude would suggest that if we live our life and realize that nothing belongs to us and we are merely borrowing it temporarily, when it is gone, we should not say that it was taken from us, rather we are giving it back. The feelings we have, whether it is grief, distress, or happiness are what we allow them to be. We have control over our own judgments so when something or someone must be blamed for our unhappiness, the blame should be put on ourselves.
