It grew into a healthy strain that Saunders called Marquis. Marquis wheat was the discovery of the century. It was even better for the Canadian season because it took just 100 days to ripen. The most northern areas of the prairies could now be opened for farming. With the development of Marquis wheat, Canada was to become one of the greatest wheat- producing nations of the world.
