Arranged Marriages

             Many different cultures have many different traditions, customs, and beliefs. Jewish people do not eat meat and milk together, Japanese people have a traditional way of dressing, and Christians celebrate the birth of Christ on Christmas every year on December 25th. Although these traditions all seem like innocent time-honored practices, some traditions are not this way. A common practice in the Eastern countries is arranged marriages.
             Women living in America take their rights for granted. In many other countries around the world, women are treated as inferiors to men. They can not attend college, have jobs, or even choose whom they want to marry. Arranges marriages are very popular in the eastern part of the world, and many women are being raped of their rights as an individual, and are being told who they must marry.
             In many eastern countries, young girls, some as immature as young as fifteen years old, are being forced by their parents to marry men whom, in some cases they do not even know, and in most cases they do not love. Although the parents of the girls may think that they are helping their daughters by arranging them to spend the rest of their lives with an eligible bachelor, who can financially support them, this practice strips the girls of their rights of self-determination, and freedom of choice to marry whom they wish. Girls who refuse to marry the men their parents force upon them are reprimanded with physical punishment by their male family members, or are even in some cases, killed for bringing such trouble and embarrassment to their family.
             These girls and women who are victims of arranged marriages are treated with the up most disrespect. They are forced to marry someone their family chooses for them as if they have no intelligence of their own. These women miss out on the chance to experience on of the most wonderful and beautiful things in life- true love, and the chance to have a family and a life...
