I have been particularly looking forward to taking English all year unlike many of my classmates, who see this course as a nuisance and a burden. Although I am a pre-medicine major, I hope to expand on my abilities as a writer because of the importance of written communication in every day life... after all, where would we be nowadays without letters, e-mails, and even simple notes? I have also found that written communication allows for improvement in verbal communication, yet another important aspect of day-to-day proceedings. A lot of times I am able to think more clearly and find the rights words to convey my messages either during or after writing something; in fact, some of my best conversations occur while I am taking a break from writing compositions. Besides bettering myself, I hope to achieve good grades in this class. Academics have always been a priority for me, and I take pride in my work and my work habits.
             I have always enjoyed writing, and the variety it brings. In high school, my previous writing experiences have included persuasive essays, critical analyses, fictional stories, nonfictional essays, and poetry, as well as some unique projects and assignments in various genres. In addition, the challenge of improving a paper with each new draft has always appealed to me. Because of this, I opted to take honors English classes throughout middle school junior high, and all of high school, except for my junior year in which I took AP English. It was in this specific class that I leaned the most, from a crotchety, extremely sarcastic man who happened to possess a type of brilliance and demanding nature underneath his gruff exterior. Though this class proved to be tedious, each work I produced reflected my newfound knowledge and increasing aptitude as a writer.
