hday she is given Sophie's World. She learns to think philosophically alongside Sophie. Hilde believes that Sophie and Alberto exist somewhere but she cannot explain how. She is the ideal reader for Sophie's World and cannot get her nose out of it.
             Albert Knag is the creator of the book in which his characters become aware of their roles as characters. He created Alberto to resemble himself. His gift for his daughter is a gift of love in hopes that she will share the same love and wonder of the world that he does. He was manipulative in making his story but can be forgiven because he did it for the right reasons. Perhaps it was brilliant construction of Sophie and Alberto that allowed them to gain an existence for themselves.
