             What is true love? Can there be different kinds of true love? Shakespeare demonstrates the different kinds of love in the masterminded play of Hamlet. Shakespeare uses five different characters to show the different ways that you can love a person. Shakespeare personifies different kinds of love in Hamlet; Hamlets love for Ophelia, Claudius and Gertrude's love for each other, and Ophelia's brothers' love for her.
             Hamlet loves Ophelia and demonstrates this love numerous times throughout the play. At the end of the play Ophelia dies, leaving the kingdom unsure if she killed herself or if the death was accidental. Even though the way of her death is unclear Hamlet is still hurt. "I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brother could not with all their quality of love make up my sum" (5:1 273). Hamlet says this to show just how much he really does love Ophelia. Hamlet also looks to the attendees of the funeral and lets them know that nothing will ever hinder the love that he has for Ophelia. "Be buried quick with her and so will I, and if thou prate of mountains let them throw millions of acres on us" (5:1 282). Critics will also agree that Hamlet did love Ophelia in his own weird way. "Hamlet cares very much about Ophelia" (pathguy.com). The critic uses this argument because Hamlet demonstrates love throughout the play and it can be supported. Another critic will also agree that Hamlet loved Ophelia. "Hamlet care very much about Ophelia he must have hoped for a happy life with her" (pathguy.com). Shakespeare also demonstrates Hamlets love for Ophelia by his actions. "Pale as shirt, his knees knocking each other" (2:1 82). A critic would agree with this quote saying that, "Hamlets extensive love for Ophelia resulted in grave suffering" (campusrat.com).
