There are various ways one can obtain citizenship in the United States. These ways are coming to the U.S. as a visitor, an illegal alien who could get general amnesty, as a student, political refugee like the people from Cosovo, and lastly as a sponsored person. U.S. citizens who plan on sponsoring a person from a foreign country must be able to prove that they can financially take care of the person. This proof is through bank statements, house notes etc. If the person cannot take care of the person then the foreign person may not enter this country, which is one worry the person from another country may have. Any person who comes into the country in any one of these ways has to go through the same process of becoming a permanent resident of the United States.
             When a person decides to come to the U.S. they first must obtain a visa. Even if you are just visiting, the United States has a Visitors Visa. With each condition listed in the beginning, there are specific visas. For example, coming as a student, one obtains a Student Visa and a sponsored person receives a Business Visa or Student Visa, because they are usually coming here for a job or as a student. There are restrictions after obtaining the visas. If you are on a Visitors Visa, a person is only here to visit. If the person wishes to stay they must apply for a different visa, like the Business Visa.
             The next step after getting a visa is obtaining a green card. A person coming as a student has an easier chance of obtaining the green card because they get it right when they start school. Other people have to apply and wait for one year to receive a green card. Another way of obtaining a green card faster if a person is not a student is marrying a U.S. citizen.
