Holden and His altered perceptions

             Holden Caufield is a very unique character... Holden throughout the novel is very "strange". He always seems to have these altered perceptions. There are many instances in Catcher in the Rye to Show this.
             An instance where Holden has an altered perception is when he slept over Mr. Antolini's home and woke up in the middle of the night to Mr. Antolini, supposedly petting him and trying to touch him. ("I woke up all of a sudden. I don't know what time it was or anything, but I woke up. I felt something on my head, some guys' hand. Boy, it really scared the hell out of me. What it was, it was Mr. Antolini's hand [p.191-2]). Holden's perception of reality was severely altered during this incident. Most likely, Mr. Antolini was not trying to do anything with Holden. But since Holden's perception was greatly changed, he thought something bad of when Mr. Antolini was "petting" him, Even though Mr. Antolini was probably not doing anything.
             Another instance where Holden's perception of reality was changed when he was in the hotel, and he saw the weird people, like the guy that was cross-dressing. Holden was in the mental facility and what he saw was mental patients in the hospital. He was not in a real hotel, and what he was looking at were people with mental disorders. ("I looked out the window for a while, with my coat on and all. I didn't have anything else to do. You'd be surprised what was going on at the other side of the hotel. They didn't even bother to pull their shades down. I saw one guy, a gray haired, very distinguished looking guy with only his shorts on, do something you wouldn't believe me if I told you. First, he put his suitcase on the bed. Then he took out all these women's' clothes and put them on [pg. 61]) His perception was also changed during this incident.
