Topic : How to insert an IV catheter
             Specific Purpose : at the conclusion of my speech the audience will know the reasons for an IV
             Thesis Statement : IV's are used for many reasons and inserting them takes practice and skill, I
             will be explaining why they are used and demonstrating how to insert one.

             A. Attention - How many people have ever been a patient in the hospital or know
             B. We all know someone that has been in the hospital. One of the first things done
             when you are admitted is to insert an iv catheter.
             C. So today I am here to show you how an iv is started and to explain what they are used
             A. Gather all the material you need for inserting the IV
             1. IV start kit which contains the tourniquet, tape, Alcohal pads, 2X2, tegaderm
             3. Bottle of saline and a 3cc syringe
             B. IV's are used for several different reasons.
             1. The main reason for an iv is it helps maintain a patients homeostasis (balanced
             2. They are used to rehydrate and to administer pain medications, steriods,
             antibiotics and PPN(nutrition given to people who can't take anything by mouth).
             3. IV's are also used for patients who are in need of blood or blood products
