Todd Haynes " Far From Heaven" takes place in nineteen-fifty's America in Hartford, Connecticut displaying the trials and tribulations of a typical American family. Frank Whitaker (Dennis Quaid) is a sales executive, while Cathy (Julianne Moore) on the other hand, works as a manager for a local newspaper while bearing two children. At the outset of the movie, the Whitaker family appears to fit in the mold of a prosperous American family whose lives are filled with daily family affairs, etiquette, social events at the club, and an overall desire to keep up with ultra modern sophistication. However, Mr. Whitaker soon is confronted with an inner-problem that would cause a revolution within the family and inner circle. Frank and Cathy's relationship gradually began to fray. Initially, it starts with minute circumstances such as drinking, arguments, and a fairly high level of stress, yet he is not far too off-par in relationship to standard problems which might occur during the course of a relationship. However, the situation becomes way off-course when Frank distorts himself further away from reality and the situation becomes exponentially worse. Then, the story unfolds as it is revealed that Frank is a queer. He got caught sleeping with a man and Kathy got pissed off. She was tremendously upset from this event but kept unbearable silence for the sake of the future of their children. However, the silence would eventually be shattered. Meanwhile, Cathy finds comfort from unheralded source, a black gardener. At one point, the story crosses both sexual and racial lines. Later on as the story progresses they find themselves spending more and more time with each other despite the obvious cultural barriers between the races during that prejudiced era. Eventually, they disregard society and accepted life as it is.
