By looking at one's educational level I cross examined it with one's affiliation with his or her respective religious group and notice if this would run inversely with his educational success [note: this is assuming one's educational level runs proportionally with his success.] Thus, proving or disproving my hypothesis that the more successful a person is, the less affiliation he or she has with god and religious faith. This hypothesis loosely parallels the status discontent theory mentioned by Smith. This theory mainly focuses on the concern about status decline in modern culture, which usually results from the devaluation of lifestyle by the dominant capitalistic culture in America.
             Conversely, my hypothesis would also suggest that the less successful one is, the more religious affiliation he or she has. This was evident in my prior field study assignment where my partner and I noticed that the poorer neighborhoods tend to have more churches. Although this observation does not offer conclusive evidence towards strength of religious affiliation, the idea should not be overlooked. When comparing both education and religion, the concepts of "Religion vs. Science" and "Creation vs. Evolution" also would come into play. These ideas would support my hypothesis on education and strength of religious affiliation because the more educated people are more inclined to lean towards science than religion. They are more exposed to influences other than religion.
             The second variable I wanted to control is one's location. My hypothesis for this controlled variable would be that the more isolated one is with their environment, the less outside influences there would be to change religious affiliation.
