The Narrative of The Life of Frederick Douglass is a book that touched me a great deal. Before reading this book I had mixed views about slavery. Now that I have actually read it and have a greater understanding of the issue at hand, I clearly developed my own views about it. I feel that slavery is not justified and is immoral.
My name is Natty Bumpo and I am 45 years old. As a resident of Rochester, New York, slavery is an issue that isn't all too familiar to me. They would go upon hours and hours without sleep and would be beaten if they didn't wake up on time. This harsh reality is summed up best by Frederick Douglass: "There must be no halting; every one must be at his or her post; and woe betides them who hear not this morning summons to the field; for if they are not awakened by the sense of hearing, they are by the sense of feeling: no age nor sex fins any favor."
