Response Paper: The High Cost of Looking Like an All-American Guy
             This short article about is about a 20 year old Sikh by the name of Parwinder who lives with his parents. He is a taxi driver and goes to school. After the tragic incident on September 11, 2001 he fears he might get hurt, or killed by Americans because he comes across as a Muslim. Parwinder believes that it is almost impossible to live in the United States now without being accused of being Muslim if one has a turban and a beard. His family is very religious and their roots are very important to them. Parwinder buys a scissor and a hat planning on cutting his beard. When he cuts his beard he cuts some hair as well so the hat can fit on his head. His parents are heart broken from this cowardly action he has done. Parwinder's uncle is very ashamed of him. Parwinder says that it is hard to live in this country if you look Muslim after September 11. It is hard as a young man he says. He is very ashamed of what he did after he has already done it. He rather fit in, and not to be looked at as a murderer than to stand strong for what he believes in.
             In my opinion this is a very hard situation to make a decision. On one side he feels threatened by society and on the other he feels like he is betraying all he believes in and stands for. It is hard to say what is more important. To some it is religion, faith and roots. To others society is more important. Parwinder is just a young man being torn to both sides. I personally, was brought up believing that religion and roots are always more important than society. My religion (Greek Orthodox) has very deep roots that I believe I would stand up for. The Sikh religion I am assuming has very deep roots as well and I think Parwinder should have stood by his family in the traditional look of the Sikhs.
