At seventeen, he was enrolled in the Escuela de Bella Artes in Madrid. Although a model student, Dali was frustrated with the teachers and felt they had nothing to offer him. New cubist painters Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso were on the forefront of art with their sketches and Dali embraced Cubist art with a flourish.
