Human relations both improve and deteriorate under the impact of new technologies
depending on the circumstances. For example, the flourish of technology has lead to
widening the gap between the impoverished and wealthy populations. Advances in
technology have also increased the growth of cities to an unmanageable level, which has
has adversely affected the enviornmnet. For example, trees and wildlife are destroyed as
new industries arise, and as new residential commuties are being built to accomodate
growing populations. Cars have now become widespread, also leading to an influx of
urbanization. A major drawback to this is all the traffic accidents on the roads,
jeopardizing the lives of many people. The enviornment is also being threatened due to
the exhaust and pollution from cars and trucks. In addition, cars have facilitated growth
of competitive forms of socialization when kids are moved from one activity to another
and socialize on a competitive basis. Technological advances in medicine has been
beneficial to human relations in that they have removed the threat of several infectious
diseases. For example, in the U.S., we now have vaccinations for the prevention of
diseases such as smallpox, measels, menengitis, etc. Medicinal technological advances
have also increased the longevity of adults, which helps foster the relations between
generations, as children are growing up knowing their grandparents. Technology relating
to computers have increased human relations in that they facilitate communication and
spread of information. Technology in the workplace has increased the speed at which
information can be processed and analyzed. The internet, for example, has allowed friends
and family members to keep in touch with eachother even across the globe. .
