             "Guns have always been on the American scene...guns were considered necessary for survival in a nation that was being carved out of wilderness" (Dolan and Scariano). America has been plagued with issue of gun control even since the early days of the thirteen colonies. The first actions came in the early 1900s when congress made laws that dealt with firearms. They made safety standards and regulations for the manufacturing and shipment of black powder. Then when the great depression hit in the 30s, thousand were left homeless, jobless, and with no where to go. The most popular profession became CRIME. Gangsters ruled the streets with an iron fist, carrying sawed-off rifles, shotguns, pistols and Tommy guns. Robberies, murders, and kidnappings increased ten fold. The federal government fought back in the next two decades, by passing the Mailing of Firearms Act, and the National Firearms Act. Prohibiting the mailing of guns, and raising the prices of taxes.
