The amount of labor involved in the Parthenon is evident in its size. The Parthenon is monumental yet inviting. It is meant to first be viewed from an angle, making it seem less massive and more on a human scale. Even though the Parthenon is commonly considered the epitome of a Doric temple, some aspects of its construction are unusual. For example, the Parthenon is not a pure Doric temple; the inside columns are ionic. The architects, Iktinus and Kallikrates, decreased the height of the entablature, thereby reducing the bulk of the building.
