There are days when you cannot help but feel sad and blue. I know very well, because I have them too. Now what can cure or change this atmosphere? A friend will do the trick. But what is a friend? The definition of a friend cannot be limited. It can be a person whom you know, like, and trust. It could be a person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause. It could be who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group. So this could be a girlfriend, boyfriend, pet, pal, best friend, or even a family member.
             An example would be when I had a flat tire. I was on my way to school. I was almost late for class, so the last thing I wanted to happen at the moment was to get a flat tire. And that was exactly what I got, thanks to the nail that was stuck in the tire. Now I know I will have to miss class, which I don't want to. I don't have a spare tire with me so then I called my best friend. He was happy to lend me his spare tire so he came by to help. I do not know what I would have done if I would not have found any helping hands.
             Another example is the time when I got laid off from Boeing. I could not pay my phone bills because I had other financial problems. It is really hard when your life consists of no money coming in but a lot of money going out. My girlfriend understood my crisis and offered to help pay my phone bills for a couple of months until I could find a job. I would be living in depression if I did not have a shoulder to lean on.
             Another example is my classmates. In all of my classes, I was able to find friends that are there for me when I am absent. There was a time when I could not come to class for one whole week because I had to be out of town. My pal in the class copied the lecture notes for me. He filled me in on the class announcements and assignments.
