men an ultrasound (sonogram). At approximately 16-20 weeks when this test is done to check the fetus. An ultrasound is a diagnostic test that is uses sound waves to create an image of internal organs. This high frequency sound goes through the uterus and bounces off the fetus. A computer then translates the echoing sounds into video images that reveal the fetus shape, position, movements, size, gender, heartbeat and heart rate. Also check the location of the placenta, amount of amniotic fluid, structural abnormalities, multiple gestation and gestational age. This test can also determine if you should plan for a cesarean section delivery. This is the first pictures of your baby. (Ultrasound.)
Some examples of why women have an unplanned cesarean section include; the cervix stops dilating or the fetus stops progressing down into the birth canal. All other attempts of stimulating contractions or getting the fetus to move downward have failed. The fetuses' heart rate becomes irregular and might not be able to withstand the continuing labor contractions. The umbilical cord prolepses which means that the cord has slipped through the cervix or becomes compressed lowering the oxygen supply to the fetus. The placenta is starting too abrupt or separate from the uterine wall.
A planned cesarean section conditions would include; a maternal history on invasive uterine surgery, breech or transverse positioning of the fetus, multiple fetuses (three or more), placenta previa, an out break of mothers genital herpes, if the mother has preclamsia or if the fetus has a fetal illness or abnormality that would make a vaginal birth risky and if the baby is to large.
In this paper I will discuss only a couple of these conditions that would make a mother have a cesarean section.
