Homeostasis is the body's "maintenance of relatively constant internal conditions despite changes in the external environment". For example, the body is constantly undergoing reactions in order to maintain a constant body temperature of 37°C regardless of the ambient temperature. When the external temperature changes, the body does what is necessary to maintain its internal temperature. A further example of homeostasis can be witnessed when foreign intruders invade the human system. When this happens, viruses cause changes in the internal environment. In response to these changes, the body undertakes necessary actions, such as the release of antibodies, to fight the intruders and, eventually, return the body to its normal condition.
