Internet Censorship

             Censorship is a rising problem in today's society. Currently the Internet is in a censorship web of its own. People argue that censoring the Internet is wrong and violates the first amendment that states, "Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech." But other people argue that the Internet provides a wide open door to explicit material that is accessible by children.
             Currently the software marketers and Internet service providers are choosing what the public can view on the Internet. The question most people ask about this is "How can one stranger choose what another person or family sees on the Internet?" Parents and adults should choose what they and/or their children are exposed to on the Internet. Many others fight that censoring the Internet using such products cleans up the Internet for children and makes it a family environment and censoring the internet helps people view the material they are looking for with out being misled to a pornography site or other site with explicit material. Today's Internet filtering software censors too much information. The software filters web pages for "Naughty words" which the software companies choose, But this filtering software cannot tell the context in which a word is being used. I.E. The word centerfold may have two meanings, like directions to a paper airplane, or a sexual meaning, but since the software cannot tell the context in which the word is being used it blocks the web page from being accessed.
             As far as the First Amendment goes, because the US legislation follows previous court rulings, censorship won't violate the First Amendment. The legislation makes it clear that obscenely law apply to computers. This ruling protects children from being lured into illegal sexual activity.
