             The dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan occurred at the end of World War II. Later that day President Harry Truman made an announcement about the bombing of Hiroshima. In his address he states that Japan had been warned of a nuclear attack and that the U.S. had given Japan ample opportunity to prevent that disaster. President Truman stated, "It was to spare the Japanese people from utter destruction that the ultimatum of July 26 was issued at Potsdam. Their leaders promptly rejected that ultimatum."
