n South Central Crete, in the seventh century B.C. The writing shows that the helmets were captured as a form of booty and then became an offering as a dedication. The helmets were sized to fit the human head and not too heavy, in order not to be a nuisance in battle. One of the helmets shows a pair of winged youths grasping a pair of intertwined snakes. There are also two panthers with a common head. The other helmet features a horse on each side and a lion on each checkpiece. These pictures help us understand that the early Greek civilizations used symbolic drawing for purposes that were probably of a superstitious nature.
             Despite being a warrior culture, the early Greeks were masters of Geometry and expressed in forms of art as well. I picked an exhibit that showed the preciseness of early Greek geometric art. It was a Bronze Horse (21.88.24). It came from the Greeks in the eighth century B.C. The bronze, like all other bronze displays had turned green over the centuries. It still, however, expressed the clarity and preciseness of Greek geometry.
