It is a scary thought to know that a few days of binge drinking can lead to the almost immediate death of brain cells. What amazes me is that, "short-term binges, where a person consumes ten drinks in a day, rather than consistent heavy drinking, that may lead to brain damage." It is figured that most of the damage to the brain occurs during the intoxication period itself.
"If they typical adult drinks to be social, the typical teenager drinks to get drunk." The statistics of the students from grades eight to twelfth who drink is astounding. Alcohol accounts for half of adolescent deaths. Studies show that teenagers who drink are more likely to grow up to be alcoholics. This is due to the fact that the teenager's brain is not fully developed. The reasons why teenagers drink are just ridiculous. They say that some of the reasons teenagers drink is because their bored, curious, wish to be more grown up, or their parents do. I think that the main reason teenagers drink is because their friends do and they just want to fit in with them. I feel that parents need to play a bigger role in their children's drinking. Studies show that 53 percent of parents say that they have no control over their children's drinking. I agree that if parents talk to their children when they are younger that they will make the right choices when they are older. Also if the parents talk to their kids the kids will be more open to conversation with them. What parents do have to understand is that teenagers these days do not like to be told what they can and can not do. For instance, if you tell a teenager to go do something he does not want to do, he might go and do the opposite.
If I was Tony's little brother and I read this packet, I would be scared for my older brother. Knowing that his drinking is only affecting his life by killing off his brain cells would upset me.
