The A-Bomb: Friend or Foe?

The decision to drop the A-bomb was based on the thought that it would destroy our enemies but in reality it created more enemies that we have to deal with today.
The three excerpts that were given in class were based on the fact that our enemies will be defeated but if the three writers had known what we know today I believe they would all have different opinions I mean how could we have known that dropping the bomb some how fueled the bad intentions toward humanity for all countries.
The bomb was made for one reason; the complete destruction of a city to kill human beings, I ask you, do we want to think that we the land of the free and brave, needed to do this? How brave do you need to be to press a button and turn away from the destruction that you have created? The scientists who built the bomb were sure that it would bring world peace. If that is true, then I guess the world is in peace today. In fact, we are closer to pieces than peace. I think that if those scientists knew what we know today they would think a little differently about their creation.
There were three excerpts that I read for this report. The briefs described reasons for dropping the A-bomb. The three men were government officials like Patrick M.S. Blackett who said that if the bombs had not been dropped the Soviet Union would have gotten a big advantage in the war. Winston Churchill said that the use of the bomb was the only way to defeat our Japanese enemies, and Henry J. Stimson who strangely said that the use of the bomb would win us the war with the least number of deaths. I guess he didn't know we were bombing people.
Though I am against the use of the bomb, I assume that back then it must have been our only choice. Even now I still wonder if this could really be called a victory in my mind. A victory is when your enemy gets to the point where enough is enough not; when your enemy is totally destroyed in five minutes.
