After Auschwitz

            After Auschwitz
             Anne Sexton

             Anger,
as black as a hook, Rage and death
             overtakes me.
             Each day,
             each Nazi
took, at 8:00 A.M., a baby Killing is a ritual
and sauteed him for breakfast No love or cares
in his frying pan. No regrets

And death looks on with a casual eye And it happens all the time no one cares
and picks at the dirt under his fingernail. And doesn't worry or care goes on with its buisness

Man is evil, Man is creating death
             I say aloud.
             Man is a flower
that should be burnt, Beautiful and luring but evil
             I say aloud.
             Man
is a bird full of mud, Heavy and dirty
             I say aloud.

And death looks on with a casual eye But this doesn't matter no one can worry
and scratches his anus. No one cares no one has any heart

Man with his small pink toes, Pretty and insicure
with his miraculous fingers His magic
             is not a temple
but an outhouse, Its not what it looks like however, its ugly and evil
             I say aloud.
Let man never again raise his teacup. Don't let him look innocent
Let man never again write a book. Don't let him have any persuasiveness
Let man never again put on his shoe. Never let them cover up the truth
Let man never again raise his eyes, Don't let him see beauty
             on a soft July night.
             Never. Never. Never. Never. Never.
             I say those things aloud.

I beg the Lord not to hear. But she doesn't really want this to happen
