He has a warped sense of the world as baron, uneventful and essentially has nothing to offer. An additional worry of how to kill the king may in fact push him over the edge. So, one may conclude that Claudius' death is delayed because Hamlet needs to set time aside to deal with his own thoughts and problems before he takes on other people's issues.
