Essay on The Catcher in the Rye/Tone advances the meaning?

             The Catcher in the Rye, on of the biggest coming-of-age novels, shows a very unique point-of-view in the meaning of the novel on everyday existence. J. D. Salinger uses a variety of words and expressions, to not only show the tone in the book, but to advance the meaning of the novel. In the novel, we can see how the protagonist, Holden Caulfield leaves his school and goes to New York city for some days. He is afraid of having any connection with somebody, but at the same time during the four days he is telling us about, he tries to get close to people he knows. When he remembers all these events, he is in a mental institution. By setting the reader in a certain mood with the use of tone, the author helps his reader to understand better the meaning of the book.
             The meaning of a novel is always told to be the central idea, which is usually a universal theme. These ideas or themes are something to what people all around the world are able to connect. In this novel, the central motion is the preservation of purity and innocence. All the reactions Holden has, are is some way to show how society corrupts children and what they later become. These values are rarely found in older people and not because of them, the reason is that the community after a time changes everybody at least a little bit. The time, when Holden tells us, his doctor about Old Ossenburger, he said he was a phony. Another example was when he found some kids in the Museum of Natural History. Holden asked them the reason why they were not in school and when they answered that there was not school, Holden described one of the little kids like a liar. It is an exaggeration the way the novel shows this situation, but this way tone is easily understood by people.
