In the novel 1984 by George Orwell technology has been adapted to be used to spy upon us. There are precedents In the USA that show that many similar techniques are used by such people as the US government and their law enforcement agencies. This can also be seen in such organizations as Airports.
             One example of this is the use of cameras in public places. Any town or city you go into may have a camera on you. From the camera watching the door to a shop to a camera on a stoplight. In 1984 you have cameras in every room. Any ware you are from your own home to a work place is monitored.
             It is now a common enough practice to monitor any work that may be done on a person's computer in an office environment. From email to Instant messaging everything you type may be watched. In 1984 they watch your every move. They see what you do how you breath, they even see what you throw away. Although not to this point yet they average worker is monitored at some level in today's work place.
             The likely hood of being searched and via electronic means is also there. In 1984 you had everything from secret police that monitor your every move to telescreens that transmit everything you do to a central location. In many cases you are monitored like this in the real world. Not only can your boss or anyone with the know-how in your company find your pertinent information also anyone responsible for transmitting said data can easily examine it. Examine for instance what happens when you access a web page. You may believe it goes strait from server to you but this is not the case. It goes thru a series of different networks, being shuffled along a digital highway of servers and routers. If it is stored on a server in china and is accessed from California it will have to go thru many computers, all of which can be modified to see every bit of data sent.
