Scarlet Letter

Hester Prynne is the definition of a strong women. She has all of the qualities that women in any society strive for. Hester Prynn is more powerful than any man or masculine society, just like the one she is in. Hester is able to go against the Puritan society she is able to work for her society and yet be humiliated at the same time by her society. Hester had never given up even when there were so many times she could have easily given up. She fights for what she believes in and not what her society believes in. It is much like the minister's black veil, Hester is not the one that is wearing the veil it is the community that is wearing that dark black veil.
Very early in the book Hester shows us how strong of a women she really is. When the community has accused Hester of committing adultery they give her an 'A' to wear on her chest to show what she has done. Hester is not ashamed for committing adultery the way she shows that is that she makes the 'A' look very pretty. This is a statement of courage instead of her having her head down she has it held up to show how strong she is and that she will fight for what she believes in. Hester also fights for people that she loves. Dimmesdale is the man that she committed adultery with, she did not tell the society who the man was because she wanted to protect Dimmesdale. Hester also does this with her daughter Pearl. Pearl is what the consequences are for Hester committing adultery. Hester protects Pearl from the society because they dislike Pearl very much the children throw rocks at her, the men accuse her and yell at her. Hester has become a very strong person in just the beginning of the book. She has shown us that she can stand against anyone in her society.
