The flipside to this is the installation of capitalism and its values worldwide. Whilst US foreign policy is exceptional it cannot alone provide a claim to USexceptionalism.
             So as the US leads the other liberal democracies, all possessing the same distinguishing features, what, if anything, other than its leadership, marks it out as exceptional?
             The US constitution is at the very heart of the nations politics and values. Unlike other countries, notably Britain, the US constitution is codified and notoriously inflexible in its nature. It is in the constitution that the origins of the exceptional political nature of the UScan be found. The liberal democracies of Western Europe have evolved since the middle Ages, through feudalism, monarchy, fascism and revolution. All of this has helped shape the nature of European political systems. This was not the case in the US, the US constitution was masterminded, it did not evolve naturally. It is the work of the Founding Fathers, the most prominent of whom were Jefferson, Madison and Hamilton. All were influenced by the writings of John Locke and therefore private property has always been heralded as one of the most important rights of US citizens. So with the benefit of hindsight the Founding Fathers put in place the federal system of government we see in the UStoday. Ironically the Founding Fathers feared pure democracy, Madisonparticularly highlighting its vulnerability to factions.
