To me bias is a way of thinking that is slated towards a particular idea or point of view. Bias affects our lives every day. Whenever you watch a television show or read a newspaper ,often times only one side of the story is presented.
             One example that sticks out in my mind is an episode of the show "Crossing Jordan" which I saw recently. In this episode there was an explosion at an office building , and almost automatically ,the governmental agencies in the show assumed that the bomber was of Middle Eastern decent. They managed to pinpoint a man of that decent to being in the vicinity at the time of the explosion. Acting solely on in instinct, the governmental agencies hauled him in for questioning. It ended up that the man was in fact innocent , but going on the existing bias that all Middle Eastern men should be considered terrorists their judgment was affected by bias. This bias is ubiquitous in the media since the September 11th bombings.
             Bias conversely affects other things. For instance the issue of legalizing marijuana. Some politicians believe that legalizing marijuana would have a positive outcome. Their arguments for it are that there is no extensive side affects from use , that it is needed for medicinal use in some circumstances and in the long run it will benefit the nation. It has been deliberated that perhaps some of these politicians have changed their way of thinking in accordance to the following factors; some of them may have used illegal substance in the past or will receive large kick backs from the legalization deal.
             I believe that whether or not the use of Marijuana is legalized, bias has affected the final decision. Bias affects our everyday lives, because there are always two sides to a story, it all depends which side we are fed that is more believable.
