After many days and nights of travel by sea, Odysseus and his crew crave the savory taste of succulent meat. Their food supply has been dwindling. Taking their chances with the god of the sea, Poseidon, the crew throws in their fishing lines hoping for an appetizing meal.
             "We were nearly in sight of the great kingdom of Ithaca. This odyssey had brought upon us many vigorous obstacles, all of which we had overcome. Our recent hunger had made us sick and some of us even began to hallucinate. Knowing that my men loved a challenge, I announced to them a competition, 'Cast out your fishing lines, for whoever catches the biggest fish will have the promise of great wealth when we reach Ithaca.' All eager to receive the promise of wealth and the taste of good meat, my crew dispersed to the outer edges of the ship. Personally, I was uneasy about our fishing in Poseidon's sea. I had defeated his very uncouth son, Polyphemus, seven years ago. That incident incurred Poseidon's wrath upon me.
             came out from the east side of the ship. Up from his lair, a formidable sea giant named Rellims came. Chaos came over the entire crew. I drew out my sword determined to slay this beast. It had four bulging eyes and an extensive tail. It threw members of my crew out into the sea as if it were tossing a small pebble. Coming from Mt. Olympus, the gray-eyed Athena once again intervened. She gave me a shield that made it impossible for Rellims to attack me. Within minutes I had hewed of this sea creature's head as swiftly as slicing bananas. After feasting on a cauldron full of the delicious meat of Rellims, we all laid down to a restful night of sleep. Hours later, the rosy fingers of Dawn spread across the sky waking us all. In the far distance, Ithaca, which we had pinned for over many years, was visible once again."
