             Mohandas Gandhi wasn¡t honoured with the name ¡§Mahatama¡ meaning ¡§great soul¡ for any small reason. His continous dedication for a non-violent and just society for all made him one of the most influential men in the field of human rights. His accomplishments and ideas, are to this day, backbones for many human rights movements in the world.
             „ª Gandhi¡s story started when he was a little boy being influenced by his father¡s idea of ¡§ahimsa¡ meaning non-violence and love towards all. As he matured and started a life on his own, he mirrored this ideology in everything he did.
             „ª As an attorney in South Africa, Gandhi was exposed to the mistreatment of Indians and other races. He himself was treated as a member of an inferior race which pushed him into his life-long quest to achieve civil rights for all.
             „ª Gandhi formed the Natal Indian Congress and founded the famous ¡§Satyagraha¡ to try and end the mistreatment of minority races in South Africa, peacefully. As a result the Indian Relief Act was passed to meet those demands.
             „ª The Satyagraha meant ¡§the power of truth¡ which was non-violent civil disobedience. Defending the truth could mean suffering oneself but never conflicting suffering unto others. This campaign was especially used by Gandhi and his followers to bring an end to British rule of India.
             „ª Gandhi¡s Salt March to the Sea was one of the peaceful demonstrations used by him and his followers to allow India¡s economic independence from heavily taxed British goods.
             „ª Gandhi was also the founder of the ¡§Harijans¡ movement. The Harijans were the lowest of the Indian caste system and were therefore segregated and deprived of political and educational rights.
