The Catholic boy Kevin McCoy and the Protestant girl Sadie Jackson were raised in a poor area in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They played a lot when they were kids, but their friendship was torn apart by the conflict between Protestants and Catholics. Sadies family moved to a Catholic part of Belfast and thy didn't meet for three years. One day they met each other by accident on the street in Belfast. They started to see eachother, but they had to keep it secret because people did not like catolics and protestants to date. They fell in love, but their relationship wasn't very popular among their families and friends, who tried to convince them to stop seeing echother, but there was no way they could give up their secret meetings.
             Kevin lived in the worst possible area for seeing a Protestant girl, the hate for Protestants was very strong among his family and friends Their relationship caused several problems for both of them. Both lost their jobs, and at one occasion Kevin was beaten up by one of his former friends. The conflict between Kevin and his former friends escalated as he kept seeing Sadie and one day he was framed by Brian Rafferty and his gang. They hided a rifle on Kevins job and then called the police and told them that it was Kevins. Kevin was arrested, but after he had explained the situation he was released.
             Kevins sister, Brede, was very worried about her brother after he was beaten up, and she decided to try to convince sadie to stop seeing Kevin. Sadie knew Brede since they were kids, and liked her a lot, so she actually listened to her. She didn't go to see Kevin at the beach as they had decided, and he was waiting for her in the rain.
