Comparing and Contrasting the Piece "The Birds"

Ever since the middle of the twentieth century many novels and stories have been passed on to the world of cinematography. Some of these films embedded themselves in our minds, equaling or surpassing the written work. Others classified as box-office failures; shaming the director and possibly the author. But, quality aside; with many if not all, of these films each have similarities and differences that compare to those of the original novel or story. An example of one of these situations that will be compared and contrasted in the following is the piece "The Birds" originally written by Daphne du Maurier, and later directed by Alfred Hichcock.
Both of these pieces have several similarities. Aside from an obviously similar plot line that dealt with an enormous fleet of birds going totally postal on everything in sight, each contained several others. First of all the two shared the fact that each protagonist was doubted about the attacking birds. In each piece the main character attempted to warn the town's people about what they thought and had witnessed, but no one listen until it was too late. Another point that was similar was in both cases a radio was used. Even though the story and the film took place in two different time periods, both contained the use of radios for the characters to obtain information concerning the conflict. The two also took place on cities that bordered on the water, or coastline. Even though this was not really explain in detail, in each form the grouping of birds appeared to invade from over the waters and onto the bordering regions.
The story and the film did have their similarities, as you can see, but the two also had many differences from each other. One of the most noticeable points that differed in each was the gender of the protagonist. In the written work the main character, Nat Hocking, was male. But in the piece of film the lead role, Melanie Daniels, was female.
