families. The average daily high in the canyon during July in 1931 was 119-degress Fahrenheit, and the average low was 95-degrees Fahrenheit. There was also no electricity at the campsites and virtually no trace of sanitation. The drinking water soon became contaminated with bacteria, causing many people to become sick with a disease called amoebic dysentery (Doherty, 1995). Because of these reasons, a new location had to be chosen for the workers and their families to reside in.
             To address some of the problems surrounding the campsites, a road, a railroad, and power lines were built to Black Canyon. As soon as these were completed, Engineers from the Bureau of Reclamation chose a site seven miles southwest of the project site to begin building housing facilities for the workers. The new town was government sponsored and was finally named Boulder City.
             The ultimate site chosen for Boulder City was based on several factors including temperature differentials and topography of the site.
