             Miller depicts a charter that Willy envy's through the successful Dave Singleman. Dave Singleman was a successful individual that took a lifetime to accomplish. He was an eighty-four year old salesman in the Parker House. Willy explained that in order to make a sale all he had to do was "pick up his phone and call the buyers, and without ever leaving his room, he made his living... (pg.1337)." Only then at the age of eighty-four was he able to make an adequate amount of sales. That indicated that he must have worked hard and long, which is one of the things that Willy does not want to do.
